The demographic studies define the overall dimensions of the Study Area in terms of population, dwellings and jobs. The studies also examined community needs for social infrastructure, education and recreation.

Ratios and densities derived from current research and Government policies were used to calculate the areas of land that would need to be set aside for each major land use. This was cycled through several times with major variants of the Plan and then with refinements of the preferred Plan until a balance of land uses was reached.

As a result, the Structure Plan can accommodate about 20% of Perth's new suburban growth to the year 2021 and conforms with DPUD policies and standards.
